On the left side is Jim's shack with remote control box and line amplifier sitting on top of the Valiant (behind Jim). The right side shows Jim standing next to his RCA BTA-500R broadcast transmitter which is installed in the garage and remote controlled in the shack. Jim uses the BT-500R, which he now calls "Lieutenant Columbo", on 160 meters. The name grew out some of the problems getting the rig going. As Jim says "It was quite confused for awhile but has ultimately triumphed. Anyone who is a Columbo fan as I am knows how confused the Lieutenant gets on those little details and loose ends."
